<p>The School of Nursing offers a range of continuing education offerings to meet the needs of registered nurses who seek to expand their professional nursing knowledge.</p>

<h3><em>Ageism, Dementia, Delirium, and Depression</em>: Register now for free program -- Rescheduled for June 25</h3>
<p>This program is supported through a grant in collaboration with SIU School of Medicine.</p>
<p>This program will promote an increase in awareness of issues in aging and how to address those issues.</p>
<p>There is no charge for this conference but participants must register in advance. Registration is limited to 35 participants. Participants who complete the program will be awarded<strong> 4.0 contact</strong> hours through the SIUE School of Nursing.</p>

<h3>Register now for Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics: Schedule Posted</h3>
<p>The School of Nursing will offer a Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics (WINI) on May 25-27 at the Four Points Sheraton Conference Center in Fairview Heights. The event will begin on the evening of May 25 with a wine and cheese event for participants. Participants can earn <strong>16.5 contact hours</strong>.</p>
<p>This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Maryland Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.</p>
<p>WINI (Weekend Immersion in Nursing Informatics) is a nursing informatics continuing education course that travels around the country to provide affordable, in-depth nursing informatics education. Approved by the Maryland Nurses Association, an approved provider of nursing continuing education, WINI focuses on basic competencies in nursing informatics. WINI and Informatics Insights are developed and presented by managing members, Carol J. Bickford, PhD, RN-BC, CPHIMS, and Kathleen Smith, MScEd, RN-BC, FHIMSS. Both members are board certified in Nursing Informatics by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).</p>
<p>WINI provides an opportunity to have guided discussion and education in a variety of informatics topics including the systems life cycle, theories used in nursing informatics and professional practice trends and issues.</p>
<p>The WINI Faculty received the Information Technology Award for Knowledge Advancement from Sigma Theta Tau, the International honor society in nursing in 2001. In November 2003, the WINI Faculty received the Outstanding Nurse Educator award from the Maryland Nurses Association for their work presenting WINI throughout the US and in Canada. <p><strong>The program registration fee is $525</strong>. The fee includes the full WINI program, a wine and cheese reception on Friday, May 25, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m., as well as breakfast and lunch on May 26 and May 27. In addition, WINI participants receive: </p>

<li>the textbook, Saba and McCormick (2011): Essentials of Nursing Informatics (5th Edition); and</li>

<h3>Legislative Night 2012, September 27, 2012</h3>
<p>Join nursing colleagues and students for Legislative Night 2012, a joint offering of the SIUE School of Nursing, Tenth District Illinois Nurses Association, and the School of Nursing at Lewis and Clark Community College. The program will be held at the N.O. Nelson Center in Edwardsville from 6:00 till 9:00 p.m. on September 2012.</p>
<p>This program has been offered for over 30 years to educate nurses in the Metro-East about legislation and legislative proposals that affects nursing and health care. Come learn about the BSN in 10 legislation that will go the Illinois General Assembly soon.</p>
<p>There will be a CE program featuring the lobbyist for Illinois Nurses Association, the Illinois Society for Advanced Practice Nursing, the Illinois Association of Nurse Anesthetists, and the Illinois Association of Colleges of Nursing. Come hear about the legislative issues and challenges that nursing is addressing in the Illinois General Assembly and meet area legislators.</p>

<h2>CE Needs</h2>
<p>School of Nursing's CE provider unit seeks to meet the continuing education needs for nurses in South-Central and Southern Illinois. The SON may be able to provide a program to meet your organization's need. <h3 align="left">Mandatory Continuing Education for RNs & LPNs: The 2007 Illinois Nurse Practice Act</h3>
<p>The 2007 Illinois Nurse Practice Act mandates 20 hours of continuing education (CE) for RNs and LPNs in order for license renewal. This mandate will begin with RN license renewal in 2012 and in 2013 for LPNs.</p>
<p>The requirements for RNs and LPNs are similar to those that have been in place for advanced practice nurses (APNs) in Illinois for several years, although precepting is not part of the CE plan for RNs and LPNs. (See <a href="http://www.ilga.gov/commission/jcar/admincode/068/068013050001000R.html">Section 1305.100 Continuing Education: Title 68: Professions And Occupations Chapter VII: Department Of Financial And Professional Regulation</a> for more information.</p>
