The Institutional Animal Care Use Committee (IACUC) is established to evaluate the care of animals held or used for research, teaching, and other activities, and to insure that required standards are met.
I. Functions of the Committee
A. The Committee is responsible for animals housed at all facilities and components of SIUE.
B. To comply with Department of Health and Human Services Policy on the Humane Care of Laboratory Animals, the Committee meets semi-annually to inspect animal facilities and to record these meetings. It also reviews all protocols for the use of animals for research, instruction, and other activities.
C. An Annual Report of Research Facility is filed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Institute of Health signed jointly by the members of the Animal Care Committee.
II. Members and Number
1. At least three members, SIUE faculty.
2. One member, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.
3. One member from the community not associated with SIUE.

III. Selection Procedures
The Committee, in accordance with federal regulations, is appointed by the Associate Provost for Research.
