<h2 style="line-height:200%;tab-stops:9.0pt">Bequests<br /></h2>
Bequests made in will are probably the most familiar type of planned gift. A bequest is usually revocable and may be used to create an outright gift or a deferred gift through a life income gift for family or friends.
<p>The wording of the bequest should include a statement on how the bequest should be used to benefit SIUE. As the unit designated to accept gifts on behalf of the University, the SIUE Foundation should be listed as the beneficiary. When creating a bequest, the donor may choose to leave a specific percentage of their estate, the remainder or residue of the estate, or a specific dollar amount to achieve their goals.</p>
<p>While the SIUE Foundation does not provide legal or tax counsel, the Foundation will provide assistance to lawyers and tax advisors as they work with their clients.</p>
<p>Donors who created a planned gift or bequest to benefit SIUE through the SIUE Foundation, are eligible to be included in the SIUE Foundation's Heritage Society. A simple letter of intent is all that is required to be included.</p>
