November, 2009

Hello All,
I hope this message finds each and every one of you doing well.

Here is a weekly glimpse of what November 2009 had in store:

November 2 - 6: Wednesday November 4, the NCERC hosted Al Foster, Director of Process Technology, Lewis and Clark Community College. Under the direction of Al Foster, Lewis and Clark has developed a Process Technology program soon to be the envy of the family of Community Colleges nationwide. Friday November 6, the NCERC hosted a global leader in corn fractionation technology. As a recommendation of the NCERC Technical Advisory Committee, the NCERC is teaming up with the SIUE Foundation to solicit a donation of a complete dry corn fractionation system.

November 9 – 13: Monday November 9, the NCERC hosted a global leader in corn fractionation technology. Tuesday November 10, the NCERC conducted a training symposium for a well known Venture Capital firm. The purpose of the private symposium was to educate and inform on opportunities that exist for the dry grind ethanol industry. A very special thank you to Bob Randle, Genencor, for joining us in the training symposium. Bob’s experience and knowledge are invaluable to the NCERC Team and the dry grind ethanol industry.

November 16 – 20: The highlight of the week was a meeting at USDA/ARS in Beltsville, MD hosted by Robert Fireovid (USDA/ARS). John Caupert (Director), Brian Wrenn (Research Director), Frank Romano (Director of Operations) presented USDA with our FY09 USDA Annual Report. In addition, mutual areas of research interest were discussed.

November 23 – 27: Client conference calls and Industry Outreach were the highlights of the week. Wednesday November 25 the NCERC conducted a conference call with Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs (IRRA). IRRA has become a major financial sponsor of the NCERC Internship / Externship / Faculty Assistant Program. To date, five people have been the recipients of monthly stipends sponsored by IRRA. Beginning January 11, 2010 four more people will enter a one year contractual Assistantship at the NCERC, sponsored and funded by the IRRA.

Until next time, have a good, productive and safe month.

Regards,
John Caupert
Director, National Corn-to-Ethanol Research Center
Phone: 618-659-6737 Ext 226
Email: jcaupert@ethanolresearch.com
