Introductory
Workshop Series
Goal
of Introductory Workshop Series
Participants will
become familiar with the breadth and organization of the Library
of Congress’ digital primary sources, understand their
value in instruction and create basic inquiry-based learning
experiences.
Target
Audience
K-12 in-service teachers servicing schools and educators in
the following Illinois Regional Office of Education areas:
ROE 3: Bond/Fayette/Effingham
Counties
ROE 10: Christian/Montgomery Counties
ROE 13: Clinton/Marion/Washington Counties
ROE 40: Calhoun/Green/Jersey/Macoupin Counties
ROE 41: Madison County
ROE 45: Monroe/Randolph Counties
ROE 50: St. Clair County
Format
Workshops are held during in-service days, after school, and
in the summer. Our basic workshop series is 12 hours in length.
We have 3 formats: 2 six hour days,3
four hour days, and 4 three hour days. Workshops are hands
on and delivered through lecture and group collaboration.
The minimum number of participants per workshop series is
10 and the maximum number of participants is 20.
Location
Workshops are held at the K-12 school using their facilities
(computer lab) if possible due to the variances in resources
between schools. Participants have more success when using
familiar resources available at their workplace. There is
no fee to the school or participant.
School
Technology Award
When a school has a minimum of 10 participants (or 50% of
their certified teaching faculty) successfully complete the
basic workshop series, the school will be awarded a LCD projector
to assist teachers in the use of the digital primary sources
at the Library of Congress Web site. Priority use should be
given to those teachers who participated in the workshop series.
Participant
Technology Award
After a participant successfully completes the introductory
workshop series, the participant receives a stipend and a
flash drive (or memory stick) to aid in the classroom use
of the digital primary sources at the Library of Congress
website.
