AAM Workshop Offerings

Basic Workshop Series (12 hours):

Category: Foundations, Instructional Integration, and Media Specific Integration

Participants will learn the basics of how to access and integrate primary sources from the Library of Congress’ American Memory web site into their classrooms. Participants will learn how to search and locate primary sources from the online collections. They will also explore primary source analysis techniques/strategies in the classroom through application activities.Participants will come away with additional skills on how to download, save, and integrate primary sources and develop curricula utilizing this amazing internet resource from the Library of Congress. The basic workshop series is appropriate for all subjects at all grade levels and is required before participating in any advanced workshops.

Advanced Workshops:

Using Local Primary Sources to Bring Local Meaning to American Memory: Digitizing Photos, Audio, and Manuscripts (6 hours)

: Analyzing and Applying Locally

Explore the vast possibilities of using local primary sources alongside Library of Congress American Memory resources in teaching and learning. Activities include looking at how other educators have used local primary sources and how their own sources can be located, digitized, and used in the classroom to engage students to connect local and national resources with an understanding that all history is local.

Digital Storytelling using Visuals and Storyboarding (12 hours)
Category: Digital Storytelling

Storyboarding is one way students can incorporate primary sources to tell a story of their understanding. Learn digital story elements while creating, organizing, and planning a story of your own, integrating the primary sources from the Library of Congress’ American Memory web site. Learn how to “story” with pictures and still shots from a digital camera to integrate local resources with national resources.
