Thursday, Sept. 8th - Thursday, Oct. 6th -  “Google Tools and Tricks” offered through the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach’s Leisure Learning Activities.

Google has become something of an everyday term. Most everyone knows how to use Google to search for a favorite restaurant or perhaps a new book. But do you know how to use all the other free features that Google offers?

Binod Pokhrel, technology specialist for SIUE’s School of Education, wants to broaden your view of Google with his course, “Google Tools and Tricks,” which is being offered through the SIUE Office of Educational Outreach’s Leisure Learning Activities.

This five-week course will take place Sept. 8 through Oct. 6 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Room 1203 of the SIUE Alumni Hall.

Friday, Sept. 30 - Deaf Education Workshop Series
Early Intervention for Children with Hearing Impairment: From A to Z.

This course is designed for early education providers, SLPs and early childhood educators who help children who are deaf and hard of hearing, birth-3, learn listening and spoken language. Providers will find this a general overview of best practices in early intervention in deaf education. Participants will discuss strategies to support their practice of coaching families through natural daily experiences while helping them maximize communicative interactions with their children.

Friday, Dec. 9 - Deaf Education Workshop Series
Targeting Speech Skills for a Child Who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing.


This introductory level workshop is designed for SLPs who have limited experience evaluating, creating goals and planning speech therapy sessions for children who are deaf or hard of hearing.

A complete testing protocol will be discussed, along with an overview of assessment techniques. An audiologic overview will provide a basis for understanding the speech characteristics of children who are deaf and hard of hearing.

Specific therapy techniques will help participants design practical therapy sessions for children at a variety of ages, birth-12+ years.

Friday, Feb. 3 - Deaf Education Workshop Series
Strategies for Teachers in the Mainstream


This introductory workshop is designed to give participants a foundation of basic information about deafness in addition to specific strategies to effectively teach and create a supportive learning environment for a student who is deaf or hard of hearing.

This workshop is designed for general education teachers with little or no previous training or experience teaching a student who is deaf or hard of hearing.
