The Health Education program meets the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC) standards. Classes are taught by a core group of award-winning Health Education faculty. A unique feature of the Health Education program is the focus on service learning, projects and internships through community partnerships, giving students multiple opportunities throughout their studies to work in the field of health education prior to graduation. Opportunities also exist for international travel study courses and internships. Elective courses allow majors to emphasize areas of interest, such as adolescent health, minority health, environmental health, and global health.

Why Health Education?

The Health Education program prepares students for rewarding careers in prevention education. Entry-level Health Educators will encourage healthy lifestyles and wellness by educating individuals and communities about behaviors that can prevent diseases, injuries and other health problems. Successful completion of the program effectively prepares students to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) exam, given twice yearly.

Career Outlook

The career outlook is promising for Health Educators. Jobs are expected to increase 18% by 2018, making it a career with above-average growth. Our graduates are employed in entry-level positions in a variety of settings, including state and local departments of public health, non-profit organizations, corporations, schools, colleges and universities, and medical care settings. Those who wish to obtain advanced degrees in graduate school will be prepared for programs in public health, health and public administration, epidemiology, and health promotion.
