The purpose of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Initiative on the campus of SIUE is twofold. The first is to develop a Bachelor of Health Sciences degree comprised of various health science track options in the areas of Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Psychology, Kinesiology, Nursing, Pharmacy, Pre-Medicine and Pre-Dentistry. These tracks will serve to meet the demand of a growing workforce need in ancillary health careers in the metropolitan St. Louis and southern Illinois region. Second, the program will serve to enhance the retention of current SIUE students who, for various reasons, may not ultimately matriculate into current pre-professional programs.

The initial blueprint for this initiative has been prepared by the Baccalaureate of Health Sciences Working Group. This group was co-chaired by Susan Thomas (Provost’s Office) and Robert Dixon (Chemistry). Additional members of the group included Gireesh Gupchup (Pharmacy), Jeffrey Herrick (Kinesiology & Health Education), Kevin Johnson (Environmental Sciences), Ann Popkess (Nursing), Bill Retzlaff (Biology), Kevin Rowland (Dental Medicine), and Dan Segrist (Psychology).

Please check this site often for updates on the progress of this exciting campus initiative!
