Program: Superintendent Education Doctorate Degree
Degrees Available: Education Doctorate (Ed.D.)
SIUE offers a program of study leading to the Education Doctorate (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership. The program is designed for practicing P-12 school administrators who want to pursue careers as superintendents or school district leaders. Through doctoral study, they develop expertise in using research to make system-wide changes that benefit all students within the school district.
The program of study consists of fifty-four (54) semester hours beyond the master’s degree. The curriculum is structured in four parts:
After successfully completing parts 1 and 2 above, candidates earn both the Ed.S. degree and Illinois Superintendent endorsement. Before advancing to doctoral candidacy (and the final 9 hours of study), students must pass a qualifying exam. Persons admitted to the Education Doctorate program work in a cohort. They typically take two courses per semester (fall, spring, summer) and earn the Ed.S. and Illinois Superintendent endorsement after two years. Ed.D. completion requires an additional two years.
Please note: Tuition waviers will not be accepted for the Ed.D. program.
