CAS touches the lives of the entire SIUE undergraduate student population through an exceptional liberal arts and sciences general studies curriculum as well as providing specialized courses in the arts, humanities, natural sciences and social sciences for its more than 3,700 degree majors and 12,700 minors. CAS prepares graduates to become outstanding citizens through the transmission of knowledge, developing critical thinking abilities, and providing students with the skills to make them productive members of a rapidly changing society. Pre-professional students receive an exceptional foundation on which to build future careers in the law, health sciences, education, engineering and business.
Experiential learning is at the heart of CAS. Taught by the highest caliber faculty, CAS graduate and undergraduate students experience hands-on learning in laboratories, studios and classrooms. Bringing CAS students to the world and the world to students is another essential part of experiential learning. Visiting artists and professors, a diverse faculty and student population, and a multi-cultural and interdisciplinary program of study bring the world to CAS students. Service learning, field schools and travel abroad programs take students into the world for life-changing experiences, which help to better prepare them for success in today's global society.
