2010 Student Honors:

Mr. Zhi Mu is the recipient of the Outstanding Environmental Sciences Graduate Student Award

Ms. Michele Siebert is the recipient of the Julia E Walker Award in Environmental Sciences

        

2010 Summer Offerings:

(1) ENSC 220/220L (Principles of Environmental Science and Lab) will be offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm from May 24 to August 7, 2010. The lab sessions are scheduled on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 11:00am to 2:00pm. The Instructor is Dr. R. Rodriguez.  (2) ENSC 520 (Environmental Sampling) will be offered on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:00 pm to 8:50 pm from June 28 to July 24, 2010. The Instructor is Dr. Z.-Q. Lin. (4/2010)

Awards Received by Faculty:

 Dr. Beth Walton received a Meridian Award of $1200 to partially support her "Education Community Outreach Using Environmental Science GIS Modeling the Watershed Nature Center of Edwardsville, Illinois" project. The Meridian Society is an organization of women dedicated to supporting a variety of SIUE programs. (3/2010)

New Faculty:

Dr. Elizabeth (Beth) Walton will be joining us this fall with a joint appointment between the Environmental Sciences Program and the Geography Department. Her primary research interests include the use of geographic information science and remote sensing to model and analyze the distribution of bog turtle populations in the Southeast. She is also interested in human population impacts, landscape ecology, natural resource management, environmental issues, and wetland ecology. She is an invited member of the IUCN/Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group and on the Program Committee for the Turtle Survival Alliance. She hopes to continue her research with turtles by conducting population assessments in the local area. (7/2009)





The mission of the Environmental Sciences Program is to cultivate the students' perspectives of environmental issues and provide students with refined knowledge of environmental issues at the local, regional, and global scale. The program will increase the student's technical competence in addressing these issues, their origins, ramifications, and resolutions. The Environmental Sciences Program at SIUE is interdisciplinary, and is designed to enhance and promote professional education and career opportunities in a wide area of interests.
