2010 SIUE Alumni Homecoming Committee - Kris (Zimmermann) Magee, '80 BS

When I was asked to serve on the Homecoming Committee, I saw it as an opportunity to give back to the institution that has served me in so many ways.

I earned my bachelors in Elementary Education from SIUE (1980).  I returned in 2001 to complete a two-month intensive High Tech Worker Bootcamp offered through the CMIS department.  I taught for a total of 9 ½ years in local school districts. For 12 ½ years, I stayed home to raise my two children, Angela and Steve.

I first put my IT skills to the test at the U.S. Department of the Treasury in St. Louis and Challenge Unlimited, Inc. in Alton. Then, in August 2004, I began my current position as a Microcomputer Support Specialist II at the SIU School of Dental Medicine. There I enjoy installation and set up of computer equipment, training, tracking and reconciling inventory, and troubleshooting computer and audiovisual issues. The best part of my job is making life easier for students, faculty, and staff.

My mother, three siblings, husband, and daughter are also alumni of SIUE.  I have many fond memories from the early days when my mother attended to my present days of employment at the School of Dental Medicine in Alton. My most treasured SIUE memory is that of meeting my husband Mike in a psychology class of 150 – 200 students. We began dating during the last month of class, and the rest is history.
