Morris A. Taylor, Associate Professor, Public Administration & Policy Analysis: This discussion will focus on current issues in homeland security ranging from international terrorism, domestic terrorists and aspects of border protections in response to the Mexican drug cartels. Each of these areas will be reviewed and evaluated in the context of the current political climate and economic recession, with implications for civil liberties.

Iran
Lucian Stone, Assistant Professor, Philosophy: Thirty years after the Islamic Revolution, Iran remains to many an enigmatic political force. On June 12, 2009, Iran will have held its 10 presidential election. This presentation will include a brief overview of the history of the Islamic Republic of Iran, an examination of major social-political developments that have taken place during this thirty-year time span, and an analysis of the results of the presidential elections.

All sessions to be held at Main Street Community Center located at 1003 North Main Street in Edwardsville. The events are free and open to the public.  No advance registrations are required and refreshment will be provided.  Please call Cheryl at SIUE (618-650-3210) for additional information.
