Great Teacher Award
The Great Teacher Award was established in 1970 by the SIUE Alumni Association. Each year, an SIUE faculty member is recognized for their continuous excellence in teaching. Each recipient receives a $1,000 award and a commemorative plaque. In addition, each recipient’s name is engraved on the Great Teacher Award plaque displayed at Birger Hall. The award is presented during the August commencement and the recipient is recognized at a special luncheon hosted by the Alumni Association.
Eligibility
The Great Teacher Award is open to current and retired SIUE faculty who meet the criteria stated below. The award can also be presented posthumously. No faculty member may receive this award more than once. Please review the list of
past award recipients before submitting a nomination.
Criteria
The Great Teacher Award is given to professors who have gone above and beyond the typical classroom lectures. Each recipient has had a tremendous impact on students’ lives through creative teaching and mentoring. Nominees for the award should meet the following criteria:
- Commitment to excellence and originality in teaching at SIUE
- Superior knowledge of his/her subject matter
- Original and innovating classroom presentations
- Demonstrated concern for students both inside and outside of the classroom
Nomination Process
Nominations may be submitted by SIUE students, alumni, faculty and staff. Nominations can be submitted online through the
nomination form. Nominations can also be mailed to the SIUE Alumni Association, c/o Great Teacher Award at Campus Box 1031, Edwardsville, IL 62026-1031.
Nominations for the 2012 Great Teacher Award are due April 16, 2012.
